Various gases in the compressed air have different solubility and diffusivity, which makes their comparative penetrability different when passing the membrane module (completely imported). They can be divided into "fast air" and "slow air". For instance, H₂O, H₂, CO₂, and O₂ is "fast air", while N₂ and Ar penetrate slowly. Membrane nitrogen generation technology is based on this principle.
